Hi everyone!

Today I would like to share with you some interesting quotes from the “Presenting To Win” book that I mentioned on my yesterday’s post.

So here they come:

…Every presentation is a stepping stone on the path to ultimate success. If any one presentation fails, there will be no tomorrow. You never get a second chance to make a first impression. …treat every presentation as if it was as a mission-critical as an IPO (Initial Public Offering) road show…

…Every business presentation has one common goal: the all-important art of persuasion, an art with literally dozens of applications for which everyone in business must be prepared. Persuasion is the classic challenge of sounding the clarion call to action, of getting your target audience to the experience known as Aha!
… Aha! is the moment when you know your audience is ready to march to your beat…

…The problem is that nobody knows how to tell a story. And what’s worse, nobody knows that they don’t know how to tell a story!..

…A clear and concise story can give a presenter the clarity of mind to present with poise…

…The good presenter grabs their (the audience) minds at the beginning of the presentation, navigates them through through all the various parts, themes, and ideas, never letting go, and then deposits them at the call to action…

That’s that for now. Any comments, please share with us.

I’ve bought a book recently from Amazon.com called “Presenting to Win: The Art of Telling Your Story” by the recommendation of one friend. After having read the first couple of pages, I became very addicted to it. The author, Jerry Weissman, who trained quite a few business elite (from Microsoft, Yahoo, Cisco, Intel Corporation, Intuit etc) how to make persuasive presentations gives such a wonderful advice on how to deliver your message, how to present your wonderful idea or point to the potential customers, investors and other interested parties. In other words, how to take your audience from where they stand i.e. Point A and to move them to your objective, which is Point B.

Anyway, it is a very useful book if one of your responsibilities is to make a sales pitch or make a presentation of any kind.

I will try posting some of the interesting points I come across and share them with you.

So come back again and do not forget to leave your comments here.

I have recieved an email from McAfee educating how to avoid junk mails from spammers and decided to share that with you:

Don’t publish your email address on any website or discussion forum.

Use a separate email address to sign up for newsletters, online postings and trade shows. If your mailbox starts receiving an abundance of spam, you can delete the mailbox or filter it more aggressively

If you didn’t originally sign up to receive an email, or if you don’t recognize the sender, do not unsubscribe from the list. By unsubscribing, you show the spammer that your email address is active.

If you use web-based email services, report spam to the service provider. This helps the provider more accurately determine which messages are spam.

Keep a collection of mail you want to stop receiving and determine which email addresses or phrases in the messages don’t change. Use this information to keep further unwanted email out of your inbox by creating filters using your McAfee software.
[Hey, I am not advertising them though ]

Do not reply to spam and, most importantly, don’t buy anything from spammers.

Use anti-spam software, which blocks 97 percent to 99 percent of spam to significantly reduce the spam in your inbox

Web 2.0 has been around for quite a while yet many businesses have still to jump on board. The truth is that those organisations that have not engaged in the conversation online will be loosing market share and falling behind. Social media is that important.

Engaging with your customers is essential these days and web 2.0 is the means by which companies are talking. Gone are the days of the one sided communication channel, today conversations are happening online all over the world and some of these conversations are discussing your company and your product or service. It makes sense therefore that any business strategy would involve listening to these conversations and then actually participating in them.

Take a peek at this presentation about web 2.0

Web feeds can save you so much time and energy. With web feeds the latest news, stories and updates from your favourite sites come to you instead of you going to them, it is very convenient.

I use Sage as my default web feed at the moment but when I am away from my pc I use the web-based service, Bloglines. I have used Bloglines for ages now as I find it really user friendly…however, Google Reader has recently caught my eye.

Google Reader has a really easy interface (as you would expect) with many features other web feeds can only dream about. Videos and images are integrated and it has an interested social aspect too whereby you can share and comment on content with your friends. That’s really handy for projects and or just for catching up and interacting with friends.

It has a blog and news search engine which makes it very easy to subscribe to feeds. Great.

It’s been along time coming (it launched in Beta in 2006) as Web feeds have been around for a while but Google really have made something very good, easy to use and integrated.

I may just start using it myslef

Google Reader Features

Drag and drop

Package tracking

Mobile interface

Fast loading

All you subscriptions in one feed

Wii version available

Offline access with Google Gears

I have come across this very interesting article on Birmingham Post’s website today. The article discusses the research results conducted by Ofcom. I will try to quote some of the points below.

As the the article claims, a new research from Ofcom reveals many people from ethnic minority groups lack confidence finding content online and are concerned about content delivered on digital communications.

Ofcom’s media literacy audit of UK adults from ethnic minority groups draws on quantitative research from the four largest ethnic minority groups in the UK: Indians, Pakistanis, Black Caribbeans and Black Africans.

Despite almost all adults from ethnic minority groups showing interest in internet functions, they are less confident about general use of the internet.

For example, they are less likely to say they are confident finding information online (69 - 83 per cent, compared to 91 per cent of the UK population as a whole). All four ethnic minority groups are also less likely than the UK population as a whole to shop or bank online (19 to 29 per cent, compared to 41 per cent).

For example, between 65 and 79 per cent of ethnic minority groups say that they use the internet to listen to or download music online, compared to 57 per cent of the UK population.

The full article can be found here.
